Letters, 1861-1865.

Letters of Samuel, William and Emma from March 1861-June 1865. Samuel and William write of camp life and William writes a detailed letter of the battle where his brother died and his death. He writes from Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and of Forrest's guerrillas, and his experience as a clerk in the General Court Martial in Columbus, Ky. in 1864. Emma's letters to Jane begin before the war and tell family news and the events of the brothers enlistment. After the war her letters to Jane and to her brothers tell of home news and Jane of news of her brothers at war.

Brighton, Illinois family who had two sons serving in the 122nd Illinois Infantry, Company D during the Civil War. Samuel was killed at Parker's Cross Roads, Tenn. in 1863.
